Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADH)

ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) are neurodevelopmental conditions that impact the way individuals regulate their attention, impulses, and behavior. These conditions are characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can affect various aspects of daily life.

Key Features

  1. Inattention: Individuals with ADD/ADHD may struggle to maintain focus, easily becoming distracted by irrelevant stimuli. They might have difficulty organizing tasks, following through on instructions, or completing assignments.
  2. Hyperactivity: While hyperactivity is a hallmark of ADHD, not everyone with the condition exhibits this trait. Hyperactive individuals often have an excessive level of physical restlessness and a need for constant movement.
  3. Impulsivity: Impulsivity refers to acting without considering the consequences. People with ADD/ADHD might have trouble controlling their impulses, leading to hasty decisions, interruptions, or difficulty waiting their turn.

Types of ADD/ADHD

  1. Predominantly Inattentive Presentation: This type is characterized by significant difficulties with sustaining attention and organizing tasks, without the prominent hyperactivity-impulsivity component.
  2. Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: Individuals with this type exhibit heightened levels of hyperactivity and impulsivity, with less pronounced inattention.
  3. Combined Presentation: This is the most common type, involving a balance of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

Impact on Daily Life

ADD/ADHD can affect multiple areas of life, including education, work, relationships, and self-esteem. Individuals may struggle academically, experience challenges in completing tasks, and face difficulties with social interactions due to impulsivity or inattention.
